Candida albicans will surely make a good name for an oriental dish. But believe me, when you learn what Candida albicans really are, you wouldn't even think of the name being that of a delicious oriental dish.
Candida albicans is one of the many species of Candida, a genus of yeast. Like other species of Candida, this one occurs naturally. According to research, 80% of the population has Candida albicans in their bodies. But there are cases of overgrowth of this certain species of Candida which actually results in yeast infection commonly known as candidiasis.
The name candidiasis may sound good but actually this infection is one that fails to save the face of the infected person. Fungus grows and rapidly multiplies in different parts of the body like the mouth, pharynx, gastrointestinal tract, and even in the vagina. Moreover, it is generally characterized by itching, swelling, and discomfort.
But if you think that Candida only poses small threats to health compared to other diseases or infections then you are wrong. There is a kind of candidiasis, also caused by Candia albicans, which is said to be chronic or life threatening. This condition is known as the systemic Candida infection. Here Candida breaks through the lining of the intestinal tract causing it to be mixed into the bloodstream. And what does this imply? This only means that the fungus will easily be spread to every body part since it is carried by the blood. This is exactly what makes it a chronic one. Infection can occur in several places at one time.
The worst case scenario is when the infection or infections are left untreated. Candidiasis, even those not caused by Candida albicans, can be treated by the use of antifungal drugs. Basically, since Candida belongs to the Fungi Kingdom, it will react positively to antifungal drugs. But don't ever take antibiotics, especially when you have systemic candidiasis for it will only worsen your condition. It could even probably shorten your life. Taking antibiotics means elimination the competition of Candida and making the condition more favorable for them.
But why bother curing candidiasis when you can prevent having the infection in the first place, right? There are just certain things that you have to do. First and foremost, you have to be hygienic always, especially when you are engaging in sexual activities. Note that candidiasis can be transferred by sexual intercourse and by deep kissing. Second, watch your diet. Boost your immune system. With a strong one, you could actually fight the overgrowth and multiplication of Candida albicans. And third, be wary of alkaline products that you use on your skin. Candida albicans and Candida in general, love alkaline environments. So unless you want to have candidiasis, don't use alkaline products nor strive to lessen the acidity in your body.
I guess by now your illusion of Candida albicans being a delicious oriental dish is gone. And probably even if in the future such a dish is really developed, you would refuse to eat it.
