Chronic Yeast Infection Or Could it Be Something Else?

Let me start by telling you that I am a guy and, given the subject matter, I am happy that I don't have to deal directly with some of the issues that you ladies have to deal with on a regular basis. I am not sure who thought it was a good idea to say that the woman is the weaker vessel but I am sure that he wasn't talking about a woman's tolerance to pain and discomfort. Most men would break like a twig after puberty reared it's ugly head and would probably ask for a hysterectomy after seeing child birth for the first time!

I will tell you that as a man I have the utmost respect for women and am sympathetic to the many ailments that you have to go through. I am married, a good husband and as such I care for my wife and want her to be happy and comfortable in life. Like many women, my wife went through a period of time where it seemed that she suffered from what appeared to be a reoccurring yeast infection. At least one week out of the month was spent treating her yeast infection. She tried many over the counter remedies and even a few home remedies that either proved to be "old wives tales" or just plain silly! But every month I tried to be supportive and sympathetic as she endured the discomfort and just "yucky" feeling that came along with these infections.

At one point my wife even visited her doctor to see if there was something wrong or if she could be prescribed something stronger to help finally eliminate this problem that often kept us from being intimate when we wished to. She was prescribed some medications but this still didn't seem to take care of the problem.

In an attempt to help my wife I did some research online and found a few natural, holistic cures for yeast infections that did seem to help but still she seemed to have a reoccurring problem. That is when I found information on Bacterial Vaginosis.

It seems that Bacterial Vaginosis is often mistaken or misdiagnosed as a common or reoccurring yeast infection. Out of my concern for my wife I picked up a book that offered help in explaining what BV was, how it could be treated. After a simple test in which a sample is viewed under a microscope to see if the bacteria that causes BV was present my wife was on her way to actually curing her problem.

My wife accepted the medication prescribed by the doctor but decided to try to natural cures that she found in the book that I bought her. She said that she had already tried taking the advice of her doctor and wanted to see for sure if her BV could be cured holistically. What we read in the book that I bought for her made sense....common medications used to treat BV often wipe out not only the harmful bacteria but also the helpful bacteria in your system. You have probably seen the results of this when taking a course of antibiotics that flushes out all the helpful bacteria in your digestive system. My wife said that she still had the meds to fall back on in case the natural cures didn't do the trick. To her delight she felt relief within a few days and her BV had cleared up within a week.
